We’re thrilled to announce that Wayland Farms, who are part of our agricultural division are winners in the National Pig Awards THREE times this year:
• Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year (for the second year running)
• Pig Producer of the Year
• And a huge well done to Lee Thompson who won Special Achievement of the Year Award with his podcast and website that he set up called Flat White Chats.
The judges said:
Wayland Farms - Pig Producer of the Year
“Wayland Farms is one of the country’s most impressive and progressive pig businesses. Winner of the outdoor award, it has gone one further this year to be named overall pig producer of the year. It is very much a holistic approach with excellent production figures across its outdoor units, which supply high quality products to Cranswick, with a strong focus on pig health, minimal antibiotic use, pig welfare, environmental enhancement, energy efficiency, reducing wastage and staff training and development. A deserved winner.”
Wayland Farms - Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year
“Judges were impressed with a series of innovative projects the company has initiated, including full use of a carbon footprinting tool, monitoring water use and using tracking systems for lone workers and transport."

Lee’s ‘Flat White Chat’ podcasts, along with his website, have done a great deal to raise the profile of mental health in the agriculture sector. He has used his own mental health journey to illustrate problems which can occur in our industry and shared it with as many people as possible. Lee is very articulate about these issues, using the mantra: ‘if you think about something for 48 hours then you need to deal with it.’ You can follow Lee here @flatwhitechats.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
