We’ve looked to see where as a food producer we can tackle some of the big ticket issues facing our planet, whether that’s extreme hunger, ocean health or climate action. Second Nature is aligned with various global frameworks to ensure this happens. These are some of the organisations we are working with:
The Courtauld Commitment 2025
We were one of the first meat manufacturers to sign up to The Courtauld Commitment 2025.
Right now for every two tonnes of food we eat, another tonne is wasted. With more than two billion extra people to feed and food supply set to contribute 2℃ to global warming by 2050, we need collective action on food waste.
The Courtauld Commitment 2025 is an ambitious voluntary agreement that brings together organisations from across the food system – from producer to consumer. To drive down waste, and make food and drink production and consumption more sustainable.
We have committed to reduce the resources required to produce food in the UK by 20% by 2025, as well as reduce food waste by 20% by 2025. It focuses on reducing energy consumption, water usage, packaging materials and waste across the lifecycle of our products.
Champions 12.3
We became a member of Friends of Champions 12.3 in 2018 – a group of companies and organisations committed to achieving target 12.3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to halve per capita global food waste by 2030. This goal is under the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 – to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The UK Plastics Pact
We were one of the first signatories of the UK Plastics Pact, led by WRAP and launched in April 2018. We have agreed to the following ambitious targets, to be delivered by 2025:
Eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use plastic packaging through redesign, innovation or alternative (reuse) delivery models.
100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable.
70% of plastic packaging effectively recycled or composted.
30% average recycled content across all plastic packaging.
