We welcome the report today from The UK Plastics Pact and WRAP which details work underway in the industry to eliminate single-use plastic — have a read.
We recognise that no single organisation can drive change on a big scale, and we joined global leaders at the recent Telegraph Plastic Sustainability Summit to discuss the challenges.
Jim Brisby, our Group Commercial Director was a panellist, and described the journey we have been on. The business is looking for collaboration from the value chain to go further. ‘We’ve removed 703 tonnes of plastic per annum from our supply chain, which sounds a lot but is only c5% of our total plastic use end to end — we need R&D to find more sustainable solutions that do the job packaging needs to do,’ he said.
Other speakers included Judith Batchelor (Sainsbury's) (middle), Louise Nichols (previously Marks and Spencer) (left), Marcus Gover, CEO of WRAP, Sian Sutherland (A Plastic Planet), Daniel Birnbaum (SodaStream International, Ltd.), Louise Stevens (innocent drinks), and Virginie Helias (Procter & Gamble).
