Our people are changing the way we do business by championing our Second Nature initiatives.
Hear from Myles, our Food Waste Champion:
After working in the construction industry as a health and safety advisor, I joined Cranswick in 2019 as a health and safety coordinator. Over that time, my role has transitioned into being the site lead for Environmental management as well as other Health and Safety responsibilities, initially a new area to me but a challenge that I’ve enjoyed throwing myself into, learning and understanding as much as I can.
One of the large scale projects that I have been part of is our mission to achieve Carbon Neutral status across all of our sites, a project that, as a team, we managed to accomplish in 2021. I’m a big advocate of teamwork, and together we have taken some giant steps on our journey to being the most sustainable food producer.
I’m passionate about food waste reduction, so the proudest achievement of my time at Cranswick is setting up the FareShare partnership for the Cranswick Continental Foods site. By collaborating with FareShare, we have been able to supply continental meats and cheese to lunch clubs and soup kitchens whilst also reducing our edible food waste by half.
Second Nature is very much embedded into the culture of Cranswick employees at all levels. The awareness and understanding of sustainable food production is great and it’s exciting that it will only get better over the next few years. I’d love to see the whole industry working in more environmentally friendly ways, I think that as employees within the food sector, we should keep pushing for change.
