We have always had a keen focus on running our business in a fair, ethical and efficient way, and in 2018, we made the conscious commitment to be the world's most sustainable meat business.
To deliver such an ambitious vision, we needed an ambitious strategy. One that would not only add value to our business operations, but that would meet and surpass the expectations of customers, colleagues and investors. In early 2018, with the help of a unique sustainability benchmarking platform, we assessed all of our operating facilities against 21 global, industry and customer sustainability standards. The result was a comprehensive gap analysis that gave us our current sustainability baseline and just how far our strategy had to stretch to truly lead.
From this point, we developed Second Nature, which embeds sustainability into the core of the business, from how we think, farm, source, produce and ultimately live.
We were thrilled to win the ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ Award at the recent BusinessGreen Awards for Second Nature. The award celebrates our pioneering green manufacturing best practices and principles, how the business has made significant progress against its green goals and how we have promoted Second Nature to our colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
The BusinessGreen judges said: "In a hotly contested field, the judges were won over by Cranswick's sweeping Second Nature sustainability strategy and its work to tackle food waste, deploy renewables, slash plastic waste, and embrace green agricultural practices across the business and its supply chain."
We want to thank everyone at Cranswick, all our amazing Changemakers and all our supporters along the value chain to have helped to make this happen.
