Cranswick Gear Up to Support This Year’s Humber Bridge Sportive

Cranswick is proud to sponsor this year’s Humber Bridge Sportive event as principal partner. The sportive, which will take place on 18th June, challenges cyclists of all riding abilities to participate in one of three different routes planned.

Cyclists can expect to be cheered on by family, friends and colleagues who will join them at Hesslewood Hall as they prepare to embark on either a 22, 42 or 62 mile route across North Lincolnshire, south of the Humber Bridge. Throughout the day, supporters and cyclists will celebrate their fundraising achievements at the hall’s grounds with performances from Savage Skills, the UK’s leading freestyle mountain bike stunt team, while they enjoy a limited edition 'Humber Bridge Sportive Ale' crafted especially by Atom Brewery.

All proceeds raised will be donated to The Ellie Penrose Fund, a charity which was set up in 2015 by Ellie’s family after she sadly passed away from meningitis. In celebration of Ellie, a talented young sportswoman who represented Team GB, the charity lends support to underprivileged young athletes. The Fund provides sports equipment, access to transport and training resources to help budding athletes fulfil their sporting potential.

Launched in 2013 by cycling enthusiasts, Andy Cawley and Ian Nicholls, the sportive has raised over £20,000 for local charities in the East Yorkshire region.

Andy, who has helped organise events such as the National Road Race, Circuit Race Championships and Beverley Town Centre Circuit, said “our aim is to keep the event simple and achievable by all of those who take part. The challenge is the distance you choose. We don’t go out of our way to include the toughest route we can find”.

After increasing popularity, the sportive will now feature a 42 mile ride to fill the gap between the shorter and longer distances and is set to achieve 750 participants across all three routes.

“This year’s event promises to be very exciting and we look forward to raising a significant amount of money for The Ellie Penrose fund”. If you would like to participate or pledge your support, visit www.humberbridgesportive.co.uk
