We are delighted to be celebrating 20 years of Cranswick's gourmet bacon; traditionally dry cured, expertly air dried, and unbelievably delicious.
The Cranswick Gourmet Bacon Company was co-founded in 2004 with our Food Hero Chris Battle, a man who really changed the bacon market for the better in the UK. His determination and serious bacon expertise, alongside the help of the Cranswick team, created new listings in Sainsbury’s and changed the category forever.
After training in a butcher’s shop as just a teenager, Chris was able to build his knowledge and discovered artisanal techniques dating back centuries. Several years later, when Danish bacon imports starting flooding in and Chris was left with dissatisfied customers, he set off on a mission to make bacon "just like they used to". And it was exceptionally good!
Rapid growth facilitated a move from the first gourmet bacon factory in Waterfoot to Sherburn-in-Elmet where the company still calls home today.
Thank you so much to Chris, those who helped him along the way, and all at Gourmet Bacon, who still strive to continuously produce the best, most premium bacon in the market. Cranswick are privileged to have Chris on site each week maintaining the unwavering quality standards we have all come to enjoy. For us it doesn’t get any better.
